The Marais quarter is one of the rare non-tourist places in Paris, the appearance of which has not changed at all over the centuries, where the special atmosphere of the old city still reigns. During the excursion we will walk through the narrow medieval streets and courtyards of the quarter, look at the mansions and ancient houses.
During the tour you will learn the fascinating history of the Marais quarter, where there used to be a swamp that was drained in the 13th century by the Knights Templar.
We will introduce you to the magnificent architectural heritage of Paris: the oldest and one of the most beautiful Place des Vosges, numerous mansions of royal ministers, courtiers and aristocrats, Masonic temples and lodges.
Marais is a unique Parisian quarter that combines historical and modern Paris. After all, the Templars, ministers, prisoners of the Bastille, great writers and heroes of their works lived here.
At the same time, the quarter is a haven for modern creative youth, with new fashionable pastry shops and restaurants, creative designer boutiques and shops. The Mare is also considered a Jewish community area; there are two synagogues, shops with kosher food and, of course, many cafes where people queue for the national delicacy - falafel. And finally, it became the center of the LGBT-community in Paris with many colorful and creative cafés and clubs.
